Sunset Country encompasses the most northwestern section of Ontario,
bordered by the state of Minnesota
to the south and the province of Manitoba
to the west. Often described as having more lakes than residents, visitors flock
to this part of Ontario for its range of outdoor pursuits, including angling,
hunting and kayaking. However, there are several communities that offer a multitude
of attractions. The largest town in the region is Kenora,
located on the northern shore of Lake of the Woods, a popular houseboating destination.
Kenora is also known for its murals, beaches, shopping and festivals. Dryden
is home to Maximillian Moose, the town mascot, and a wealth of fishing and hunting
lodges. The parks of Sunset Country, including Quetico
Provincial Park and Woodland
Caribou Provincial Park, are reputed as wild and untouched, perfect for wilderness
canoeing, rugged, backcountry hiking and camping.
